Lord Ganesh is worshipped with Goddess Lakshmi on Diwali, so a Ganesh rangoli is a natural choice for the pooja place. This 2 ft design builds Ganpati from an “ॐ” shape inside a lotus and takes about 50 minutes.
Step-by-step instructions
Step 1

Draw a large “ॐ”: the curve of the ॐ becomes Ganesh’s head and trunk.
Step 2

Add two big ears on either side, a crown on top and a small modak in the trunk.
Step 3

Draw an open lotus under Ganesh as his seat.
Step 4

Fill Ganesh orange, the crown yellow with red stones, the lotus pink or red, and outline in white.
Tips
- Curve the trunk to Ganesh’s left (your right as you look at it), the most common form for home worship.
