This is the easiest Diwali dot rangoli (thipkyanchi rangoli) you can draw: a 7×1 dot star with a diya in the middle. It is 1 ft wide, takes about 15 minutes, and is a great one to draw with kids.
Step-by-step instructions
Step 1

Place 7 dots in the middle row, then 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 dot in the rows above and below it, making a diamond.
Step 2

Join the outer dots into a diamond, then draw a curved petal from the centre to each of the four corners to make a star.
Step 3

Draw a diya over the centre dots, with the flame reaching towards the top point.
Step 4

Fill the star petals blue, the diya orange and the flame yellow with a red tip. Outline in white.
Tips
- Let kids place the dots and fill the colours while you draw the lines.
