This Deepavali kolam uses the classic 15×8 dot grid (15 to 8 chukki). It has a flower in the centre and a diya on each side, and is about 2.5 ft wide. It takes around 40 minutes once the dots are placed.
Step-by-step instructions
Step 1

Place the dots: 15 in the middle row, then reduce by one dot per row (14, 13 … 8) above and below it.
Step 2

Around the centre dot, draw an 8-petal flower that loops around the inner dots.
Step 3

Use the dots at the four outer points to draw four diyas facing outwards.
Step 4

Join the remaining dots with curved lines to make a continuous border, then fill the flower red and yellow and the diyas orange.
Tips
- Keep dots 1.5 inches apart for a 2.5 ft kolam.
- Draw the white lines first and add colour only at the end.
